The Surecom SR-628 is a portable full-duplex repeater controller.
The Surecom SR-628 lets you set up a repeater in the field in 30 seconds using virtually any two two-way radios.
After receiving a signal from one radio, the controller generates a PTT signal for the other radio and passes the received signal on.
The device enables two-way/duplex communication (from radio A to B and from B to A).
Two two-way radios with a Kenwood-standard accessory connector are needed to set up the repeater, e.g. Baofeng UV-5R.

During the 1st Picnic of Amateur Radio Operators of the Łódź Region, this device was successfully used to run the SR7PA repeater as a temporary replacement, using two Baofeng UV-5R two-way radios and two Nagoya UT-102 antennas.
You can use a single transmit/receive antenna, but in that case a separate duplexer is required.
DTMF tones can be used to turn the device on/off, change the squelch level on the receiving side, switch to simplex mode, or restore full-duplex mode.

Thanks to its built-in battery, the Surecom SR-628 can be used continuously for 72 hours.
The controller is fully transparent to radio signals, so it can be used both with digital modes (D-STAR, C4FM, DMR) and with regular FM or AM.
