Front-mounted speaker
The IC-718 has a speaker mounted on the front panel. With the speaker facing the operator, audio is clearly audible without obstruction during operation.
Excellent basic performance
The IC-718 has a general coverage receive range of 0.03 ~ 29.999999 MHz*. A 4-element system is used in the first receive mixer, providing excellent IMD performance, especially against nearby in-band interfering signals. A well-designed dual-conversion system is also built in, helping to minimize image and spurious responses for better signal fidelity. Its PLL circuit improves the C/N ratio characteristics. The PLL circuit was adopted to improve C/N ratio characteristics. The combination of the 4-element mixer system and the new PLL circuit provides excellent basic performance comparable to a commercial-class transceiver.

Noise reduction function*
Noise reduction pulls the desired AF signals out of the noise. An exceptional S/N ratio is achieved, ensuring clean audio in SSB and AM.

Automatic notch filter*
The Notch filter function automatically minimizes beat and heterodyne signals while preserving the received signal. In addition, the notch frequency is automatically adjusted to track interfering beat signals. For example, reducing interference from RTTY signals during SSB operation.

Interference rejection — IF shift
To reject interference, the IC-718 has an IF shift function that electronically shifts the IF passband center frequency to reduce adjacent interference.
Microphone compressor
The IC-718 has a low-distortion microphone compressor. This function compresses the microphone audio input to increase the average audio output level. As a result, talk power is increased. This function is effective for long-distance communication or when propagation conditions are poor.
RF gain control
RF gain adjusts the receiver's minimum response gain and ignores signals weaker than the set level — providing pleasant operation in standby or scanning mode. It is linked with the squelch control.
Numerous CW functions
A built-in electronic keyer with a variable dot-to-dash ratio (2.8:1 to 4.5:1) is included. By simply connecting a paddle, CW can be easily operated. CW pitch and keying speed are also adjustable, in the ranges of 300 ~ 900 Hz and 6 ~ 60 wpm, respectively. Of course, full break-in capability is available with adjustable break-in delay.
Easy VOX operation
VOX (voice-controlled transmission) is included with the IC-718. It provides hands-free operation by detecting audio signals from the microphone.
Five selectable IF filter widths
A digital filtering system based on an FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) is used. Two standard IF widths are available, and a third width can be selected from five options to match your operating style, without the need to purchase a filter.
Digital S/RF meter
The multi-function S/RF meter in the display section shows the S-meter value and displays the HF output, ALC indicator, or VSWR.
Simple operation
The IC-718 features a minimal number of buttons and knobs, providing excellent function selectability. Use the 10-key keypad on the front panel to directly enter the operating frequency or memory channel number. The automatic step-tuning function helps with fast tuning, activating when the dial is turned quickly. And the band-stacking register is very convenient when changing operating bands.
Optional automatic antenna tuner
The optional AH-730 automatic antenna tuner performs tuning operations at high speed, about 2 to 3 seconds. When the operating band is changed, band information is sent to the tuner, which automatically matches the antenna.
Optional AH-740 automatic tuning antenna
The optional vehicle-mounted automatic tuning antenna provides fast, relay-controlled tuning from 2.5 to 30 MHz. Its IP55 dust protection and resistance to water jets ensure reliable operation in harsh weather conditions.
