Direct RF sampling takes you to the next level with Advanced RMDR and True Dual Receive
Whether it's weak band conditions or the struggle to complete a contact during a big pileup, weak signals have always been a challenge for DXers and contesters around the world. Whether you log the QSO or keep trying to make the contact depends on the capability of your receiver. One of the key factors is RMDR performance - the ability to pick out a weak signal in the presence of stronger, adjacent signals. The IC-7610 introduces a dual RF receiver with direct sampling, achieving 110dB RMDR, rivaling the best transceivers.
Innovative direct RF sampling system
Introduced with the IC-7300, Icom's direct RF sampling system made SDR performance affordable. Direct sampling means that incoming RF signals are converted to digital form by an analog-to-digital converter and immediately processed by an FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array). This process significantly reduces the distortion that naturally occurs at the various mixing stages found in traditional superheterodyne receivers.
An amazing 110 dB * RMDR
The direct-sampling RF system in the IC-7610 is capable of 110 dB RMDR. This performance gives you the ability to pull weak signals out of the noise of strong adjacent signals. It's a difference you can hear when the desired signal emerges from the pileup!
A custom VCXO is used as the master clock
Reducing phase noise in the receiver is always a challenge, since it is a natural characteristic of any receiver. The IC-7610's master clock uses a low-phase-noise VCXO (Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillator), combined with Icom's years of technical expertise in designing a shared power supply for the VCXO and FPGA, generating an ultra-low phase noise level. A 10 MHz reference signal can also be fed into the IC-7610 for even greater precision.
Independent dual receiver
Whether you're listening to a split-operating DX station on different frequencies or searching for stations on different bands or in different modes, the two receivers in the IC-7610 are available. Two separate DIGI-SEL preselectors and two separate bandpass filter networks feed two separate A/D converters into the FPGA.
DIGI-SEL for the main and sub bands
DIGI-SEL preselectors are RF filters with sharp, narrow passband characteristics, preventing large out-of-band signals from overdriving the analog-to-digital converter during RF sampling. They also reduce third-order and higher IMD components. This is an ideal solution when receiving strong signals from other stations during contests, or signals from stations on adjacent frequencies or bands.
Speaker delivering high-quality audio
The final element of the receiver is the built-in speaker. Its enclosure is tuned to reproduce clean, natural sound and is isolated from the radio's chassis to prevent noise caused by vibration and panel resonance.
Digital-Up-Conversion (DUC) for a clean TX signal
Breaking with the tradition of mixing the carrier signal with a local oscillator, the Digital-Up-Conversion (DUC) method is used to generate the required signal from a digital-to-analog converter. The chart shows the difference resulting from this new design.
Built-in automatic antenna tuner
The built-in automatic antenna tuner memorizes settings based on the operating frequency, allowing it to recall the tuning setting after changing operating bands. The emergency tuner function * allows brief operation with an antenna that has a high SWR.
7-inch color display with touchscreen function
A large 7-inch, high-resolution color display (800 x 480 pixels). The display clearly shows various functions, such as the dual spectrum scope aligned vertically or horizontally, simulated analog meters, and decoded messages in RTTY, PSK31/63 mode.
Dual receivers, Dual Spectrum Scopes
The IC-7610 provides dual reception on different bands, along with fast, high-resolution spectrum scopes. Whether you're watching a band opening, working a rare DX station operating split, or searching for a caller, the ability to monitor each receiver separately lets the operator focus on tracking a weak signal. These spectrum scopes deliver class-leading performance in terms of resolution, sweep speed, and a 100 dB dynamic range. To make band navigation easier, connect a PC mouse to the USB port and click to tune the receiver.
Audio Scope display flexibility
The Audio Scope screen displays both an FFT signal scope with waterfall and an oscilloscope for transmitted and received audio. This makes it easy to monitor AF characteristics such as the mic compressor level, filter width, and NOTCH filter, and in CW it lets you monitor received CW signals.
Touchscreen and multi-function dial provide smooth operation
The combination of the touchscreen and multi-function dial provides fast, smooth operation. When the multi-function dial is pressed, menu items are displayed on the right side of the display. You can select an item by touching the screen and adjust levels by turning the multi-function dial.
Remote encoder for a second VFO dial
The optional RC-28 remote encoder allows you to add an external auxiliary dial to control the sub bands. The main band and sub band can be switched using the F1 and F2 buttons and controlled with the RC-28 encoder. The LED above the F1 and F2 buttons lights up to show the active band.
DVI-D connector for connecting an external display
The IC-7610 has a DVI-D connector for connecting an external display. The operating frequency, setting information, and spectrum scope can be viewed on a large external display.
SD card slot and USB port for saving data
When using an SD card or USB flash memory, you can save and load various content, including firmware updates, memory channels, captured screenshots, and other personal settings. TX/RX audio, voice memories, RTTY/CW memories, and the RTTY decode log can be saved to and used from the SD card.
I/Q signal output
The IC-7610 allows I/Q signals to be output from the USB port. These can be used for spectrum scope analysis or for decoding signals using decoder software on a PC.
Simplified remote control with RS-BA1
RS-BA1 software allows you to operate the IC-7610, whether it's in a remote part of your home QTH or anywhere in the world. Not only can you control the radio's settings and have both RX/TX audio paths, but you can also display the scope of one frequency band with waterfall. With an added Ethernet connection, a base station computer is not required.
